College essays, scholarship applications, and anything else that has to be written well

Personal statements, scholarship essays, applications to specific programs, and coursework writing — guided by a published academic author. Your student does the writing. The work here is helping them find what they actually want to say and then say it well.

Questions

Before you reach out

Do you write or edit the essay for my student?

No. The student writes every word. Structure, direction, content, and syntax get explored together in session — but the writing itself is theirs. Anything else would misrepresent them to admissions readers, and colleges are increasingly good at noticing.

When should we start?

The summer before senior year is comfortable, because it separates the writing from the pressure of deadlines and fall coursework. Starting later is still workable — the constraint is simply how many drafts there is room for, and good essays usually take several.

What is the time commitment, and how are sessions structured?

Most students begin with weekly 60- or 90-minute sessions, customized around the student’s course load and academic goals. Each meeting follows a structured but flexible framework: recap, focused instruction, then guided practice. Progress is reviewed with parents or guardians after each session, and scheduling is adaptable to weekdays and weekends.

Do you work with students who have learning differences?

Yes. Drawing from behavioral and neuropsychological principles, EM Tutoring identifies how a student’s processing differences influence their writing process, then adapts pacing and mentorship accordingly. There is an optional field on the contact form where you can share as much or as little as you like.

What does it cost?

Rates depend on session length and how often you meet, so we go over pricing on the introductory call. There’s no obligation and no pressure to book on the spot.
